See, 10 most demanding IT jobs

Image
Are you an IT worker? If not, then better understand what that techie, geeky friend of yours toil so hard for - ensuring the bank works 24x7, your systems are always on, your mobile network never goes down et al.

It might sound cool, but the IT jobs call for professionals to be always available, always accurate and always work at peak capacities to keep everything clicking.

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson released "The Most Always-On IT Jobs," a report on the most demanding IT jobs. The report, based on a survey of nearly 800 IT professionals in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the US that sought to determine the degree to which they have to be always available, always working at peak capacity and always accurate.

It is expected that technology, like smart phones and websites, will be always-on and available, 24/7, in this hyper-speed, hyper-connected world. But what about the people who support that technology? Do they have to be always-on as well? Are some more always-on than others?

Survey respondents confirmed the hunch that IT professionals must be as always-on as the data center. When asked to describe an always-on situation, typical comments included "I have to be on, the same way the system is required to run 24 hours every day," and "There are strict timelines to finish projects while still working to put out fires."

"IT is a hugely demanding profession," said Blake Carlson, vice president of the IT business segment, Avocent Products & Services, Emerson Network Power. "They need to be smart, flexible and quick - a lot like the technology they work to support. And, they must be able to handle multiple tasks at once and figure out how to get things done with limited or inadequate resources. In my experience, IT professionals are a breed apart."

"IT professionals make it possible to deliver best-in-class technology services to clients round-the-clock," said Pratik Chube, country general manager for products and marketing at Emerson Network Power in India. "They are under pressure to perform, at times even before they enter the workplace. And they do a marvelous job of navigating projects through conflicting priorities and meeting commitments with limited resources."

Overall, the Emerson Network Power survey found:

All IT jobs are highly always-on, averaging a score of 71 on a 0 to 100-point scale.

On average, IT professionals are required to be available to work 119 hours in each 168-hour week.

In general, the higher level the job, the more always-on.

Respondents ranked the top 10 most always-on IT jobs as:

1. Executive Director/Administrator

2. IT Procurement

3. CIO

4. IT Manager/Director

5. IT Operations

6. Data Center Manager

7. Engineering

8. IT Security

9. Applications/Software Development

10. Database Management

IT pros in the number one slot have the job titles administrator, leader, department head and director. All survey respondents performing this role agree they work on many projects at once, and that their work requires a high level of intelligence.

Only 25% agree or strongly agree that success depends on things out of their control. In other words, they are accountable for success, and that translates into taxing job demands.

As one director put it, "I must always be available for any emergency, on alert and pushing the limit so we can deliver results to our clients." The requirement of continuous availability was common among the group. One respondent summed it up best: "Always there, always there, always there."

Coca Cola to invest about Rs 28,000 crore in India by 2020

NEW DELHI: Beverages giant Coca-Cola on Tuesday said it, along with its partners, will invest about Rs 28,000 crore ($5 billion) in India by 2020 on various activities, including setting up of new bottling plants.

This investment is higher by $3 billion from the previous announcement made in November 2011 for a period of five years to enhance its operations in India.

"Coca Cola will invest $5 billion in India between now and 2020. This investment in India is a part of $30 billion globally planned by the company. India aims to be among top five countries in Coca Cola's markets. It is at present number seven," chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent told reporters here.

The investment, along with its partners, will go on increasing bottling lines, adding new bottling plants, enhancing back-end chain infrastructure as well as marketing by the company, he added.

Kent said the current announcement by the company is $3 billion more than previous figure.

"We have robust investment plans as we have examined our business here. Why are we increasing it? Because we are absolutely confident this is the right decision considering the vast opportunities in India," he added.

In line with its plan to double revenue globally by 2020, Coca Cola along with its partners had announced last year investments of $2 billion in India over the next five years to enhance its business operations, including setting up a new plant in the country.

Pranab Mukherjee resigns as Finance Minister; PM to take additional charge, say sources

New Delhi: Pranab Mukherjee met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his 7 Race Course Road residence and resigned as India's Finance Minister today. Dr Singh is expected to take additional charge of the crucial Finance Ministry, sources have said. An announcement is expected soon.

Mr Mukherjee, the ruling UPA's candidate for next month's Presidential elections, made a poignant farewell statement at his North Block office before meeting the PM.

The PM keeping the Finance portfolio at a time when the Indian economy is going through one of its most fragile moments is expected to send out a

strong signal of confidence to the global community that it is in safe hands. Dr Singh is widely recognised as the father of India's economic reforms which he announced in 1991.
There has been a clamour from many quarters for a change in the Finance Ministry, with Mr Mukherjee having faced flak for several decisions where politics seemed to overwhelm economic imperatives. The government has to shake off the policy paralysis tag, urgently stem the slide of the Rupee, get the fundamentals of the economy to look up and get back investor confidence. A despondent India Inc has sent repeated SOS' for some tough decisions.

Mr Mukherjee woke up this afternoon from his customary nap and headed to his North Block office, where he read out his statement, saying he was humbled by his nomination for President and thanking all those who supported his candidacy. The Finance Minister, known to be brusque often and even scold those around him, has seemed in good humour ever since his nomination was confirmed. With a touch of nostalgia, he joked today with reporters about them often blocking his car as they clamoured for information.

Earlier in the day, he had advised the reporters not "torture yourself" under a hot Delhi sun in wait of a word from him. He promised that he would speak to the media before he set out to resign.

Mr Mukherjee has in his words, "embarked on a new journey" - the 76-year-old Congress veteran will file nomination papers to run for President on Thursday, June 28. Mr Mukherjee will also resign from primary membership of the Congress Party. His party has already bid him a nostalgic farewell at a Congress working Committee meeting yesterday. With about 54 per cent of the electoral college that elects the President already having pledged support to his candidacy, Mr Mukherjee seems the most likely next resident of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Why Abu Jundal is a bigger catch than Kasab..

Deepak Nagpal

New Delhi: It has been a day since the news of Abu Jundal’s arrest came to light. As security agencies interrogate him and seek more details about the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, it is being claimed that Abu Jundal alias Sayeed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Hamza (the man has at least 10 aliases) might prove to be a bigger catch than Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone Mumbai attack terrorist caught alive.

But why? While Kasab was only a ‘foot soldier’ in the Mumbai attacks conspiracy, Jundal is someone who was in close contact with the masterminds. He was in fact a link between the conspirators and those who executed the plan.
Why Abu Jundal is a bigger catch than Kasab...

As per security agencies, he is one of the six handlers who guided the 10 terrorists during the Mumbai attacks from November 26-29, 2008. In fact, Jundal was a Hindi tutor to the 10 ultras – a language they needed to learn and prove they were Indian Muslims and not Pakistanis, in case they were caught.

According to Kasab, the voice in the conversations intercepted by Indian intelligence agencies during the attack is of Jundal, who was heard using Hindi words like prashasan (government), udharan (example), yuvak (youth).

He was heard telling the terrorists to hide their identity and identify themselves from the Deccan Mujahideen hailing from Toli Chowk in Hyderabad.

Jundal had also told the Lashkar ultras attacking Nariman House to convey to the media that the strike was just a trailer — ‘asal film baaki hai’.

Jundal has already confessed to playing a key role in the Mumbai attacks, while disclosing that Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed was present in the Karachi control room when the 26/11 attacks took place. Jundal said he too was in the Karachi control room and guided the terrorists from there.

Jundal also disclosed that he worked in close tandem with terror mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi of the LeT. In fact, he is believed to have told investigators that Lakhvi has been holding regular terror meetings in the Pakistani jail where he is kept.

Lakhvi was arrested by Pakistan following the 26/11 attacks amidst unprecedented pressure by India and the US. However, the 26/11 trial in Pakistan has not moved an inch, getting postponed every time.

While working under the guidance of Hafiz Saeed, Jundal claimed to have trained Kasab. As per sources, he even travelled upto the Indian border in the same boat in which the 10 Mumbai attackers came from the Karachi port.

Pak under pressure
All these revelations have already put Pakistan in a situation wherein it would have to come clean on its role in the 26/11 attacks. Pakistan has always claimed that strikes were carried out by ‘non-state actors’ who operated from its soil.

An official reaction has already come, assuring cooperation against terror. The Spokesperson of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi said in a statement: "Pakistan has been at the forefront in the campaign against terror. As agreed at the highest level between Pakistan and India, terrorism is a common concern and counter-terrorism cooperation is in the mutual interest of both countries. Pakistan has renewed its offer of cooperation in this domain."

Jundal’s name (as Abu Hamza) also figures at least six times in the NIA’s interrogation report of David Coleman Headley, another 26/11 mastermind. The NIA had interrogated Headley, who is currently in US custody, over seven days in 2010.

Jundal, who was also a member of the Indian Mujahideen, played a key role in several other plots too, including in Gujarat, the Jama Masjid attack in Delhi, the Chinnaswamy Stadium blast in Bangalore and Pune’s German Bakery blast. He was also involved in the July 11, 2006 Mumbai train blasts.

Hailing from Maharashtra’s Beed district, Jundal was also on security agencies’ radar in connection with the Aurangabad arms haul case.

He underwent training at the Indian Technical Institute in Beed. However, indoctrination by the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) after the 2002 Gujarat riots turned him into a terror monster from a modest wireman.

According to investigators, Jundal was also handling terror operations in India. He is believed to have trained eight boys from Marathwada and Vidharba region in Maharashtra for terror attacks.

The Indian agencies believe Jundal’s interrogation will help understand the current structure, reach and plans of Pakistan-based terror groups. They are also looking to find out the reason behind his presence in Saudi Arabia for the past several months.

TCS, Infosys line up to invest in Indore

Indore has emerged as an attractive investment destination for IT companies which are looking to expand operations amid global economic slowdown. According to industry experts, availability of workforce, incentives by the Madhya Pradesh government and availability of facilities are attracting IT companies to invest in the city, known as financial capital of the state.
"These days, five big companies including the likes of Infosys and TCS are investing crores in the IT Special Economic Zones (SEZ)," Madhya Pradesh SEZ Development Commissioner A K Rathore said.
He added that six years after notification as an SEZ in 2006, work has commenced recently at the Crystal IT Park.
A senior official in the Union Commerce Ministry said Crystal IT Park is the first SEZ in the IT sector in which production was commenced for exports. Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (MPAKVN) was given the responsibility of developing the SEZ.
"Impetus has recently begun exporting from the Crystal IT Park. Apart from Imptus, companies like Cleartrail and Intellicus have

been given approval for investment," the official said.
Rathore said companies are increasingly looking at investing in Indore as, "There are a large number of engineering colleges from where thousands of talented engineers graduate every year. Apart from that, the air and rail connectivity to the city has improved significantly."
Meanwhile, the state government is also rolling out the red carpet to IT companies and is working towards developing Indore as the new IT destination.
Officials said Infosys has been given 52.64 hectare (130 acre land), while TCS has been given 40.47 hectare (100 acre) on the Super Corridor by the state government.
They said the two IT giants were given the land to develop SEZs at Rs 20 lakh per acre and added that Ruchi Realty Holdings, Impetus and Agroweb Online are also working on similar SEZ projects

Mahi dies after being stuck in 70-ft-deep borewell for 86 hrs

Despite long-drawn efforts, Mahi no more
Despite long-drawn efforts, Mahi no more
Gurgaon: Battling since three days, the 4-year old toddler lost the battle against the odds and succumbed to asphyxia (suffocation) in the 70-feet borewell.
Mahi was finally pulled out at around 1:40 PM by the rescue team. The girl was immediatley rushed to hospital in an ambulance but was declared dead.

According to latest updates, rescuers made a headway on Saturday night as they finally pierced a hard rock in their effort to reach Mahi as hopes for her survival diminished by the hour.

The hard rock was a major hurdle which the rescuers had been struggling to break for the last two days, Lt Colonel Ashwani Tyagi, who is heading the operation, said.

"We had to dig further to reach her...hard rocks were coming in the way...we were finding out ways to remove the gravel," Joint Commissioner of Police Anil Rao said.

The combined efforts of the Indian Army engineers from Delhi, National

Security Guard commandos, fire department, police, health and revenue departments and locals are ultimately claimed success in saving the girl.
Since a long time, no movement of the child was observed in the camera lowered in the borewell.
The family members of the girl who fell in a borewell while playing after her birthday celebration in Kho village near Manesar have been praying hard for the well being of the child.

"Mahi was celebrating her birthday and was playing with children outside the home near the borewell when she suddenly fell into it," her father Neeraj, a security supervisor at a factory in Manesar said.

Chief medical officer Praveen Garg said oxygen was being pumped in the borewell to help the child. A camera was also lowered into the borewell to find out the condition of the child but it did not provide any significant detail.
THE BLAME GAME
Neeraj claimed that as soon as his daughter fell in the borewell at 11:PM on Wednesday night, he called up the police but they arrived one-and-a-half hour late.

For two hours the child kept crying inside the borewell, asking for help but now she is not responding to any calls, he said. The parents allege that the district administration has been lax in taking up quick efforts to rescue the child.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon's District Magistrate P C Meena has ordered a judicial enquiry to be carried out by Additional Deputy Commissioner to probe into the digging of an illegal borewell.

An FIR under various sections of IPC has been registered against local resident Rotash Tayal, who illegally dug the borewell.
NCPCR SEEKS HARYANA GOVERNMENT'S EXPLANATION
The national child rights body has sought an explanation from the Haryana government on the incident of a minor girl who fell into a deep borewell in Gurgaon to ascertain if it was the result of any negligence.

In a letter to Haryana Chief Secretary, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) sought to know if the Supreme Court guidelines on borewells had been followed in this case and the action taken by the state if any violation was found.

The NCPCR has also asked the Haryana government to submit a report on the "facts and circumstances" under which the 70-feet-deep borewell was dug and left open.

"The Haryana government should also provide us information of     the action taken so far against the erring owner of the land/borewell, as well as against any official in the matter whose inaction might have led to the incident," NCPCR member Vinod Kumar Tikoo wrote.

In his letter, the NCPCR member asked the state government to submit an Action Taken Report in this regard to the Commission within 10 days.
PRINCE EPISODE 'AGAIN'
The incident came six years after a similar dramatic rescue of five- year-old boy called Prince, who was saved 50 hours after falling into a 60-feet pit near Kurukshetra in Haryana, an event that was followed live on national television.
The rescue team was facing the same problem. This time instead of cutting the stones by hands they were using hand cutter drill machine, an official further added.
If the current efforts fail, a fresh parallel bore would be needed, said an official. Rescue personnel inside the tunnel carrying oxygen pipes with them were hardly able to stay for more than 5 to 10 minutes in the tunnel at a stretch.
OTHER SIMILAR INCIDENTS
Here are some previous, similar incidents when toddlers were rescued after days of complex operations:
1. Prince, 6, was rescued from a 50-foot deep borewell in Haryana's Kurukshetra after two days of rescue operations back in 2006.

2. In a similar operation, army personnel rescued two-year-old Sonu after he fell into a 15-feet-deep borewell in Agra.

3. A five-year-old boy fell into a 250-300 feet deep borewell in Jaipur in 2009. While the child was rescued safely, another incident in neighbouring Dausa district was witnessed when four-year-old Anju Gujjar was rescued from a 50-foot deep open borewell.

While the children have been lucky to have survived, there have also been ill-fated incidentswhere the victims died from their injuries:
1. Eleven-year-old Kirtan Pranami from Palanpur, Gujarat, was not as lucky as Prince and other kids and died after he was trapped in a 100-foot deep borewell back in 2009.

2. Two-year-old Darawath Mahesh fell into a 35-foot borewell and died there after 24 hours near Warangal.

3. Kinjal Man Singh Chauhan, 2, fell in an open borewell in Madeli village in Gujarat and died in 2007. The same year, an open borewell in Shiroor village in Pune claimed the life of a five-year-old child.

4. A four-year-old boy could not survive after falling into a 200-foot deep borewell in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu in 2011.

5. A two-year-old boy, Amit, in 2007 fell in a 56-foot open borewell in a village near Katni in Madhya Pradesh and died.
